Africa

“Behold the Zebra on the plains and shudder at his mighty manes.” Ogden Nash “In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight” Soloman Linda “It was wildest, untouched Africa, and it was magic.” Jane Goodall “One cannot resist the lure of Africa” Rudyard Kipling “I never knew a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy” Ernest Hemingway “The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa-for he has so much to look forward to unknown.” The Serengheti is a 12,000 square mile area situated in Northern Tanzania. It hosts the greatest mammalian land migration in the world making it one of the world’s seven wonders. The word literally means “Sea of Grass”. We were in-country during migration season and our camp was situated between 2 migration trails. If you left your tent in the middle of the night your flashlight would reveal thousands of silver eyes looking back at you. fI we saw red eyes, the warning was to quickly retreat to our tents. The stars at night were vivid always and touched the ground in every direction. The sounds in the night were intense and unending. The following photographs were taken during sunset from the rim of the Ngorangora Crater. It was our final night in Tanzania and we were blessed to sleep in a real bed. Sleep eluded us as our room was dead quiet  and we had become accustomed to the cacophony that occurred each night in camp.
